"I vanni occulti": The ensemble Al Ayre Español gently brings Handel’s Trio Sonatas op. 2 into our day and age in its multiple award-winning interpretation. With their lyrical and introspective playing style, the Spanish musicians, who "play with such beauty and sweetness as if they were singing arias", convey these sonatas as if they were messages from a secret world of chamber music performed in the halls of royal palazzi and hidden from the public.
In that Italian world, Handel also got to know the sonatas of Arcangelo Corelli, the outstanding violinist and composer of that era. Even though the German had argued with the Italian master in Rome during a personal musical encounter, he nevertheless carried on Corelli's sonata style in his own works in the noblest way possible.
