Johann Sebastian Bach complied with the request of the Berlin Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg for compositions for his court chapel by producing the compilation “Six concerts avec plusieurs instruments” (“Six concerts with several instruments”). However, the Count’s ensemble was too small to perform them. The dedicatory score lay dormant in the Count's library until 1850, before it gained importance as the basis for the concerts in the Bach complete edition. It was also at that time that the six works were first christened “The Brandenburg Concertos”.
The interpretation of the Copenhagen Concerto is celebrated by experts as a milestone in their performance history. Now you can experience “CoCo”, as The Copenhagen Concerto is known in short, at the Innsbruck Festival, together with Bach's famous concertos.
