With «Constantia», La fonte musica takes us back to the time of the Council of Constance (1414-1418), where the highest ecclesiastical and spiritual dignitaries from all over Europe gathered in the city on Lake Constance. With popes, cardinals, bishops, kings, dukes and counts, the musicians associated with them and their repertoire also came to Constance. Not only did the musical groups of the competing popes meet each other with the most advanced sacred compositions of those years, but so did numerous courtly chapels with the latest secular music from Paris and Burgundy, from Milan, Florence and Padua, from Aragon, Castile and Portugal, from England as well as from Bohemia and Cyprus. Different musical styles and traditions met here in a unique way and density – the Italian and French Ars Nova, the «Contenance angloise» of a John Dunstaple and others.
