When an ensemble calls itself after a hot southwind that sometimes blows desert dust as far as into our regions, it is obvious that Concerto Scirocco will also be providing a programme featuring stormy music full of elemental energy and rousing sounds. The ensemble, created in the surroundings of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, with violins, dulcians, viols, bass violins, theorboes, organs, cornetts, sackbuts (baroque trombones) and percussion, brings renaissance music predominantly from England to the Spanish Hall of Ambras Castle. The music of John Hiltons, Orlando Gibbons or Anthony Holborne recalls a great time in which witches, elves and other mythical creatures populated the theatre stages, books and fantasies of the people.
