The Italian-Irish musician Giovanna Baviera was born in Luxembourg. She first studied musicology at Trinity College Dublin. In 2011, she came to Basel to study viola da gamba with Paolo Pandolfo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she completed her master's degree in 2016. In order to pursue her interest in the historical art of self-accompaniment on the viola da gamba, she studied singing alongside her studies.
She is active as a gambist and singer with various ensembles (Concerto di Margherita, Profeti della Quinta and Voces Suaves, and others). Her performances take her to various international festivals and concert halls, such as Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Innsbruck Early Music Festival, Festival Ambronay, Trigonale York Early Music Festival etc.
In February 2024 she released her first solo recording "Soloindue", a programme dedicated to the art of singing to the viola da gamba, published by Albus Fair Editions.
