The South African Stefan Temmingh - awarded the OPUS Klassik 2022 for his CD “Leipzig 1723” as “Concert Recording of the Year” - is one of the world's top recorder players and lives in Munich and Freiburg. A look at his discography shows that this is an artist who not only repeats, but also creates new traditions and sets new standards. Already with his highly acclaimed debut “Corelli à la mode”, he succeeded in breaking the boundaries of repertoire and sound. His three CDs with soprano Dorothee Mields “Inspired by Song”, “BIRDS” and “Telemann” were acclaimed by the press, received numerous awards and led to him being awarded the prestigious ECHO Klassik. His Vivaldi CD received an International Classical Music Award in 2018, Gramophone's Editor's Choice and the Diapason d'or as “the new reference for this repertoire” (Diapason).
As a specialist in early music, Stefan Temmingh performs with his ensemble at renowned festivals and concert series worldwide. As a soloist, he performs with various baroque, chamber and symphony orchestras in Europe, Asia and Africa, some of which he conducts himself. He also initiates and participates in various projects and world premieres of new music. He is frequently compared to the legendary Frans Brüggen. He has been a professor at the Freiburg University of Music since fall 2019.
