The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music is one of the most renowned Early Music festivals and has been a magnet for visitors from all over the world since its foundation in 1976. The highest maxim is the original sound! The festival with more than 40 concerts at historical venues in and around Innsbruck, like Ambras Castle or the Hofburg Innsbruck, takes place every year from mid-July to the end of August. The focus of the colourful programme is on rediscovery of baroque operas. Three staged opera productions can be experienced each summer.
A special highlight is the "Barockoper:Jung". This staged production features the successful participants from the "International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti". Since its creation in 2010 by Artistic Director Alessandro De Marchi, the Cesti Competition has developed into one of the world's most important platforms for young singers with a special talent and education for baroque music.
Famous conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Alan Curtis as well as top-class vocal stars such as Vivica Genaux, Bejun Mehta and Valer Sabadus have already performed at the Innsbruck Festival. The festival 2023 will be the last edition of current Artistic Director Alessandro De Marchi. He’ll be succeeded by the duo of Artistic Director Eva-Maria Sens and Musical Director Ottavio Dantone.
